For a journal-based CME activity, do I need to identify, mitigate, and disclose to learners the relevant financial relationships for the authors of the article?

For the Advances Data Use Criterion, does discussion of analysis or synthesis of data meet the first Critical Element (teaches about collection, analysis, or synthesis of health/practice data), or must we teach methods of analysis or synthesis?
You do not need to teach learners how to conduct an analysis or synthesis of data. You do need to show that your activities include teaching about the collection and/or analysis and/or synthesis of health and practice data.For the Collaborates Effectively Criterion, does collaboration have to be with organizations outside of the accredited CME provider?
Yes. The Collaborates Effectively Criterion requires that the accredited provider work with outside organizations to more effectively address population health issues.
For the Demonstrates Creativity/Innovation Criterion, do the examples need to be four different innovations or would four examples from three innovations be sufficient (e.g., one webinar, two enduring materials, one M&M conference)?
Implementing a new format or a series of new formats of activities into your CME program could be considered one innovation. For the Demonstrates Creativity/Innovation Criterion, does “new” as it relates to innovation mean new for the current accreditation period?
Yes. The innovation must be new to the provider’s CME program during the current accreditation term.

For the Engages in Research/Scholarship Criterion, can the research be qualitative in nature, for example, about the learners’ perceptions of effective educational formats?
Yes, research can be qualitative, quantitative, or both.
For the Engages in Research/Scholarship Criterion, does this criterion require that our publication or presentation is accepted in a peer-review process or just that we submit it for publication/presentation?
The results of the research from at least two distinct projects must be developed into a form that is suitable for sharing with the community, and have each been submitted to a peer reviewed forum. Acceptance for publication/presentation is not necessary to demonstrate compliance.
For the Engages Patient Criterion, do patients and/or their family members who are involved in the planning and delivery of CME activities need to disclose all relevant financial relationships with any ACCME-defined commercial interest to the provider?
Yes. Patients/families who serve as planners or faculty in CME would be in a position to control content and therefore the requirements for identifying and disclosing relevant financial relationships and resolving conflicts of interest apply.
