We're kicking off day one of Learn to Thrive 2024 by digging into the exciting topic of artificial intelligence (AI). In our opening keynote, Dominic Slauson, Learning Experience Designer from the University of California, Irvine will explore the transformative role of AI in advancing continuing education. Learn how AI can augment human creativity in crafting dynamic educational content, ranging from simple analogies to intricate roleplay scenarios, while delving into the ethical considerations of its application. This session will offer essential insights and innovative approaches for educators eager to embrace AI in their work, equipping you with the knowledge to start implementing these tools effectively.

NEW DOCUMENT AVAILABLE: CERTIFYING BOARD REQUIREMENT CHART
Based on feedback regarding the required fields for learner matching across all Certifying Boards in the Maintenance of Certification (MOC)/Continuous Certification (CC) Collaboration, we created the below chart to help Boards better understand which fields are required and which are optional.

APPLY TO THE BUILDING TRUST THROUGH DEI GRANT PROGRAM
The ABIM (American Board of Internal Medicine) Foundation announced the fourth round of their Building Trust through Diversity, Health Care Equity, Inclusion and Diagnostic Excellence in Internal Medicine Training grant program, which the Foundation co-sponsors with ABIM, the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine, the American College of Physicians, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. The program is designed to support projects in internal medicine education that can build trust by promoting a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive health system.

The program aims to support projects that:

  • Are led by individuals or groups of residents and faculty in internal medicine education and training;
  • Incorporate members from across the care team;
  • Are intended to promote trust and create a more equitable health system by incorporating equity into the fabric of internal medicine education and training.

Reminders for Accredited Providers

COMPLETING YOUR ANNUAL REPORTING IN PARS
All accredited providers are required to log in to the Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS) and complete their annual reporting requirements between now and April 1, 2024 at 11:59pm CT. 

To complete your annual reporting requirements, you must:

  • Accept the terms of the ACCME annual agreement, located on the dashboard in PARS under Provider Agreement(s).
  • Enter all activities that started in 2023, and close all of them that also ended in 2023.
  • If you provide enduring material activities, update the total cumulative learner counts as of December 31, 2023. Enduring materials should remain open until the end date, which may be up to three years from the start date.
  • Complete and submit your Program Summary, located on the dashboard in PARS. 
    • Review and update your contact information. You can do this by clicking Back to Accreditation Management in the top right section of the PARS dashboard.

Please note: Providers accredited by a state medical society may be required to complete their annual reporting requirements earlier and should check with their Recognized Accreditor for more information.

Virtual Annual Reporting Office Hours

Mark your calendars! ACCME is offering virtual Zoom office hours on Tuesday, March 12 from 12:00-1:00pm CT to answer your annual reporting questions and help you understand reporting requirements, navigate PARS, and complete your data entry before the April 1 deadline. Upon registration, you will receive a confirmation email with Zoom connection details.

EXPLORE NEW ACCME ACADEMY COURSE: CE EDUCATOR'S TOOLKIT COMPANION

CE educators toolkit

We are pleased to offer the new “CE Educator’s Toolkit Companion” course on ACCME Academy, which was created to bring the CE Educator’s Toolkit to life. This toolkit was designed to equip educators with evidence-based best practices for delivering effective CE and was developed by SACME through an ACCME research grant.

We created this education course to help continuing professional development teams use the Toolkit to improve educational effectiveness and create better learning outcomes. Learners will:

  • Reflect on their preparedness for best-practice CE planning; 
  • Apply toolkit concepts to design, deliver, and evaluate CE activities that are effective and innovative;
  • Strategically combine educational interventions within a CE session to maximize learning; and
  • Use the Toolkit to support professional development for CE staff, planners, and faculty.
