New ACCME Data Report Highlights Strength and Reach of Accredited Education

The 2025 ACCME Data Report is now available, offering a comprehensive look at the scale, reach, and impact of accredited continuing medical education and continuing education across the ACCME System. This year’s report shows that accredited providers delivered more than 242,000 educational activities in 2025 and generated 57.5 million learner interactions—evidence of sustained engagement across the healthcare community and the enduring value of trusted, independent education.

Study Shows Strong Early Results for ACCME Certificate Assessments

A new article by ACCME President and CEO Graham T. McMahon, MD, MMSc, and Steve Singer, PhD, ACCME Vice President of Education and Outreach, reports early outcomes from the ACCME Certificate assessments in Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited CE and Data Management in Accredited CE. Published in the Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions, the study found that most participants met the passing standard, reliability was acceptable to strong, and more than 80% of respondents said they would recommend the programs—offering early evidence that structured, applied assessments can support the professionalization of the continuing education workforce. ACCME Accreditation Workshop Returns this August to Support CE Professionals

The ACCME Accreditation Workshop offers in-person learning experience for professionals across the continuing education (CE) community. The two-day event is tailored especially for those new to accredited CE or preparing for reaccreditation—and this year’s program promises timely insights, practical tools, and new opportunities to connect.

The 2026 workshop will also spotlight emerging topics shaping the CE landscape—from the responsible use of AI to strategies to ensure content validity and fostering team-based education.

An optional pre-conference session—Newcomers’ Orientation to Accredited CE—will be August 24, providing essential context for professionals early in their CE careers.

Early registration for ABMS Conference 2026, which will be held Sept. 16–18 at the Loews O’Hare Hotel in Rosemont, Ill., is open through 11 pm (CT) July 31. The conference brings together thought leaders from across the certification community who are focused on improving certification programs and the delivery of high-quality patient care. Participants with roles in assessment, lifelong learning, improvement, research, and professionalism will explore practical strategies and forward-thinking ideas that advance certification programs alongside a rapidly changing health care system. ABTS to Retire Self-Reporting of CME Credit by Diplomates

Effective December 31, 2027, the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) will retire self-reporting of CME credit by diplomates. This means that for an ABTS surgeon to have their CME credit count toward their ABTS Continuing Certification (CC) requirements, CME credit must be reported directly by the accredited provider through PARS (or JA-PARS, as applicable) beginning January 1, 2028.
