Summer 2026 Data Updates

The ACCME Data Updates keep accredited providers informed about the latest news on our CME for MOC/CC Collaboration, State Licensing Board collaborations, resources to support learner data reporting, and enhancements to our Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS/JA-PARS).

Available Now: Register Your CME Activities for ABPM CCP Requirements

The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) and the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) are pleased to announce that all accredited CME providers in the ACCME System are now welcome to register CME activities that meet ABPM’s Continuous Certification Program (CCP) requirements and to submit learner completion data in the Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS). Activities with a start date of on or after January 1, 2026, are eligible.

Updated CME for MOC/CC program requirements for all collaborating boards can be found in the CME that Counts for MOC Program Guide. As always, any questions can be sent to info@accme.org.

ACCME will conduct a one-hour training webinar on August 11 at 1:30 PM Central Time for accredited providers to learn to report CME that counts for ABPM CCP requirements.

ABS adds Quality Improvement Credit Type

The American Board of Surgery (ABS) has added an additional credit type for Quality Improvement (Part IV – QA) under Accredited CME Improvement Activity. The ABS supports the following credit type combinations within a single activity, provided the activity meets the requirements for registering a CME activity for MOC credit:

  • Accredited CME
  • Accredited CME + Self-Assessment (Self-Assessment cannot be reported independently)
  • Quality Improvement, with or without Accredited CME
  • Accredited CME + Self-Assessment + Quality Improvement

Join us for a one-hour webinar to learn more about the ABS’s newest credit type. Register for the session of your choice at the links below:

August 19 | 10:30 AM CT

September 8 | 2 PM CT

Register Your Activities Now for ABPMR CC Credit

The American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR) recently joined the CME for Maintenance of Certification (MOC) / Continuing Certification (CC) collaboration. All accredited CME providers in the ACCME System are welcome to register CME activities that meet ABPMR CC requirements and to submit learner completion data in the Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS). Activities with a start date of on or after January 1, 2025, are eligible.

ABTS to Retire Self-Reporting of CME Credit by Diplomates

Effective December 31, 2027, the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) will retire self-reporting of CME credit by diplomates. This means that for an ABTS surgeon to have their CME credit count toward their ABTS Continuing Certification (CC) requirements, CME credit must be reported directly by the accredited provider through PARS (or JA-PARS, as applicable) beginning January 1, 2028.

ABMS Changing Terminology

As part of its revised Standards for Continuing Certification, the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) is introducing updated terminology related to continuing certification, shifting from “Maintenance of Certification (MOC)” to “continuing certification,” “Part II” to “lifelong learning,” and “Part IV” to “Improving Health and Healthcare (IHHC).” Over the coming year, ABMS is focusing on promoting awareness and understanding of the new terms and then reinforcing their consistent use.

The ACCME is having discussions with our collaborating certifying boards about the impact of these changes on their respective MOC/CC programs. We will then determine what changes are needed in PARS/JA-PARS and all our supporting documentation. We will keep all of our accredited providers informed of changes as they come about.

The ACCME will be attending the ABMS Conference 2026 with an exhibit booth and poster presentation designed to keep the certifying board aware of the value of the CME for MOC/CC collaboration.

Coming Soon! Learner Credit State Licensing Board Content-Specific Tagging

The ACCME is developing the ability for accredited providers to indicate if activities or individual learner credit meet state licensing board content-specific requirements. This functionality will allow accredited CE providers to associate one or more state-specific content topics with an individual learner’s CME credit, ensuring that credit is accurately attributed to applicable state licensing requirements. We are currently refining the requirements for this new feature. Once details are finalized, we will share more information to help accredited CE providers prepare.
