Become an ACCME Surveyor

Volunteer Surveyor Training | July 29-30, 2026

ACCME invites experienced CME professionals to join our community of volunteer surveyors.

Nominate yourself or a colleague through our surveyor nomination form. Selected nominees will be invited to participate in virtual training on July 29 and July 30, from 12:00-3:00 pm CT each day.

ACCME surveyors are trained volunteers who interview organizations as part of the accreditation review process. Interviews are structured conversations in which surveyors ask questions to better understand an organization’s CME program, including its goals, practices, and the information submitted for accreditation review. After the interview, surveyors record and report their findings to the ACCME.

What is the time commitment? Surveyors participate in a minimum of two interviews per year, with interviews typically lasting up to two hours each, plus additional time to review materials and prepare. Surveyors also complete initial training, including ACCME Academy coursework, and participate in ongoing learning throughout the year to strengthen their skills and stay current with surveyor expectations.

Why become a surveyor? This role offers a meaningful way to contribute to the accreditation system and bring new insights to your organization. As a surveyor, you can learn from peers across the CME community and deepen your expertise.

“Serving as a surveyor has been valuable for my professional development and career growth,” says Lori Raw, CHCP, Program & Accreditation Manager at the University of Iowa’s Division of Continuing Medical Education. “It has strengthened my understanding of ACCME expectations and informed my day-to-day work.”

Who can apply? Applicants should have participated in at least one accreditation review and have three years of experience as an employee or volunteer with an ACCME-accredited provider, jointly accredited provider, or ACCME-recognized state medical society.
