ACCME’s Strategic Goals for 2026–2029

At Learn to Thrive on May 8, ACCME President and CEO Graham McMahon, MD, MMSc, and Annette Donawa, PhD, MSEd, Chair of the ACCME Board of Directors, presented ACCME’s new Strategic Goals for 2026–2029, Leading Through Learning: Advancing Skills for Better Care. Building on progress from ACCME’s prior strategic framework, these goals set a clear direction for how we will strengthen trust, expand the reach and value of accredited continuing education (CE), and advance learning as a force for better care—supporting healthcare professionals, teams, and the systems in which they work.

ACCME’s 2026–2029 Strategic Goals focus on six priorities:

  • Safeguard Trust, Fairness, and Professionalism: Reinforce evidence-based, independent accredited CE; strengthen transparency, consistency, and fairness in governance and accreditation; and protect learners by addressing misinformation and disinformation.
  • Amplify Visibility and Value of Accredited Continuing Education: Raise awareness of accredited CE’s value among clinicians, patients, and policymakers; support provider advocacy; promote equity in access; and elevate impactful stories across ACCME’s platforms.
  • Integrate Accredited Continuing Education as a Strategic Lever for System Performance and Workforce Well-being: Position accredited CE as a tool for organizational improvement, team performance, clinician well-being, and talent development; and support professional growth and recognition for the CE workforce.
  • Harness Data and Technology for Personalized, Insightful, and Scalable Education: Expand ACCME’s data capabilities to deliver better learner insights; strengthen collaboration and alignment with credentialing bodies; and explore ethical, valid use of technologies such as artificial intelligence to enhance efficiency and educational impact.
  • Collaborate and Support Accredited CE Globally: Expand ACCME’s global accreditation capacity and partnerships, promote recognition frameworks, and support learning systems that advance safe, high-quality care worldwide.
  • Build Research Capacity to Demonstrate the Impact of Accredited Continuing Education: Launch a coordinated research agenda, support provider-led studies, partner with health systems and academic institutions, and disseminate evidence that strengthens policy and investment in accredited CE.

We invite you to explore the full Strategic Goals and learn more about how ACCME will work with the community to advance learning and skills for better care over the next several years.
