ACCME Data Report: Thriving Through Growth and Innovation – 2023

We are pleased to release the ACCME Data Report: Thriving Through Growth and Innovation – 2023, which includes data from our community of 1,602 diverse accredited education providers. These organizations offer physicians, other healthcare professionals, and healthcare teams an array of continuing education resources to promote high-quality, safe, and effective care for patients.

The 2023 report paints a picture of a mature system, one that continues to innovate and rise to meet today’s challenges and demonstrates record levels of activity production, record levels of engagement by physicians and other health professionals. Investment in, and funding and support for accredited continuing education have continued to rise; the total income reported by the provider community reached $3.5 billion in 2023.

Healthcare professionals have returned to the workplace to participate in local and team-based activities with their colleagues. Online learning, which grew substantially during the pandemic, has retained the attention and engagement of those professionals.

ACCME remains committed to supporting the accredited provider community in our shared journey while maintaining quality control that is the source of trust for learners and stakeholders.

Our collective efforts ensure that accredited continuing education remains a cornerstone of professional development, fostering a culture of lifelong learning and continuous improvement to meet patients’ needs and the public health.

“The data in this report clearly shows that the continuing education system is supporting the evolution, change, improvement, and excellence that all of us are looking for.”

               — Graham McMahon, MD, MMSc, President and CEO, ACCME
