Building on What We Know: The 2027 CPD/CE Workforce Survey

In 2027, the CPD/CE community will come together for the second CPD/CE Workforce Survey, building on the baseline established in 2025. The survey is a collaborative effort of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) , the Association for Hospital Medical Education (AHME), Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education™ (Joint Accreditation), ACCME Recognized Accreditors, the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (ACEHP), the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education (SACME), and the Department of Medical Education at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (UIC).

The survey will open January 12 and close February 12, 2027.

Purpose of the Survey:

  1. To Identify current CPD/CE unit staffing characteristics and staffing trends;
  2. To provide benchmark data to assist accredited providers with determining effective staffing models;
  3. To correlate CPD/CE staffing models with provider type, size, accreditor, type and number of activities/learners, and any other useful characteristics for the benefit of the providers and the organizations that accredit and/or support them in the provision of CPD/CE.
  4. To build on the 2025 baseline data by identifying changes and emerging trends in the CPD/CE workforce and informing future workforce planning and support.

Broad participation across provider types and sizes is essential to ensuring that these insights reflect the field.

How You Will Benefit

Results of the survey will help you:

  • Advocate for resources with credible staffing benchmarks.
  • Plan with confidence using current workforce trends.
  • Shape future support for the CE community.

Survey Logistics

A research team at the UIC will conduct the survey of CPD/CE programs accredited by the ACCME, Joint Accreditation, and ACCME  Recognized Accreditors.

Primary contacts for accredited providers will receive an email from 2027 CPD/CE Workforce Survey <surveys@uic.edu> (Subject line: Invitation to Participate in the 2027 CPD/CE Workforce Survey) on January 12 containing their unique link to the survey. Please add this email to your Safe Senders list. The link is intended only for the recipient and should not be forwarded.

If you are a primary contact and do not receive your survey invitation with your unique link on January 12, please contact Shay Sabbaghan, Research Coordinator, at shaysabb@uic.edu.

The UIC research team will manage survey administration and data analysis. Your responses will be anonymous and will be reported only in aggregate. The research team will remove identifying information and assign responses a random identification number. Neither the ACCME nor the other collaborating organizations will be able to link individual responses to a person or program.

We Appreciate Your Participation

We know this is an especially busy year for accredited providers, with the biennial workforce survey and annual reporting happening at the same time. We are deeply grateful for the extra time and care you devote to both—and for all you do to strengthen the CE community.
