New Article Explores AI’s Role in CPD Accreditation Oversight
A new article, “Artificial Intelligence for Oversight: AI in Continuing Professional Development Accreditation,” authored by ACCME President and CEO Graham T. McMahon, MD, MMSc, has been published in the Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions. The article examines how artificial intelligence can enhance the efficiency, consistency, and insightfulness of accreditation processes in health professions education, while emphasizing the ongoing importance of human judgment and responsible governance. This timely publication highlights both the opportunities and challenges of integrating AI into CPD oversight, offering a structured framework for responsible adoption in the field.
As a reminder, the ACCME in December released new Guidance on the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Accredited Continuing Education (CE) to support providers as they integrate emerging AI tools into the planning, delivery, and evaluation of education.
