ACCREDITATION TIP
PROVIDING EVIDENCE THAT YOU ARE APPROPRIATELY SEPARATING EDUCATION WITH ANCILLARY ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS ADVERTISING, EXHIBITS, AND NONACCREDITED SESSIONS (STANDARD 5)
If you include opportunities for ineligible companies to advertise, exhibit or otherwise reach your learners in association with your CME activities, or if you offer sessions in your accredited activities that include planners or faculty with unmitigated financial relationships, be sure to review the Performance-in-Practice (PIP) Structured Abstract, specifically in relation to Standard 5. The PIP can help you understand how you should be demonstrating that those ancillary activities are kept separate from your accredited education. Ancillary activities are typically exhibits, product theaters, advertising and sessions or related events that include individuals with unmitigated relevant financial relationships.
Here’s what you need to know:
If your activity is associated with any kind of marketing, exhibits, or promotional content—or if it’s held in conjunction with sessions or events that include planners or faculty with unmitigated financial relationships—you will be asked to upload one of the following when completing the PIP:
- Materials associated with the activity in which advertising or marketing from ineligible companies was permitted
OR
- Evidence that the accredited activity was kept separate (by time and/or space) from any nonaccredited ancillary activities, like exhibits or sessions or with planners or faculty with unmitigated financial relationships.
Examples of acceptable documentation include an agenda, brochure, or an agreement with an exhibitor or advertiser that outlines where and how the promotion was placed, or a written description of the steps your team took to maintain separation if no physical evidence (e.g., signage or floor plans) was retained.
Keep this tip in mind as you plan your activities. To see specific language and requirements, you can view the current PIP offered for initial applicants or the current PIP for applicants seeking reaccreditation.

ACCME ACCREDITATION WORKSHOP RETURNS THIS AUGUST TO SUPPORT CE PROFESSIONALS
The ACCME Accreditation Workshop returns to Chicago on August 26–27, 2025, offering a hands-on, in-person learning experience for professionals across the continuing education (CE) community. Held at the Loews Chicago Hotel, the two-day event is tailored especially for those new to accredited CE or preparing for reaccreditation—and this year’s program promises timely insights, practical tools, and new opportunities to connect.
Participants will receive pre-meeting access to an on-demand curriculum via ACCME Academy, setting the stage for a deeper dive into ACCME’s accreditation requirements, including the Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited CE and strategies for achieving Accreditation with Commendation.
The 2025 workshop will also spotlight emerging topics shaping the CE landscape—from the use of AI in CE operations to learner data reporting practices and the debut of ACCME’s new certificate programs. Interactive breakout sessions will give attendees space to strategize with peers and ACCME staff, while Learner Data Central will offer one-on-one support for navigating the Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS) and CME Passport.
For those seeking a broader foundation, an optional pre-conference session—Newcomers’ Orientation to Accredited CE—will be August 25, providing essential context for professionals early in their CE careers.
Registration is open through August 8, 2025. Learn more and secure your spot at www.accmeworkshop.org.
