Education & Resources
2023 WORKING GROUPS UNVEIL RICH TROVE OF EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES
At Learn to Thrive 2024, ACCME unveiled four valuable resources that our 2023 Working Groups created over the past year for their CE colleagues. These practical, easy-to-use tools will help you identify funding sources for your CE program, address the stigma of opioid use disorder in your educational activities, level up your patient-partner engagement, and spark innovation in CE planning. “I urge you to review these resources and start using at least one of them,” ACCME President and CEO Graham McMahon, MD, MMSc, said. “Your colleagues have done terrific work in putting these tools together. It’s opportune to take advantage of their insights and advice.”

HIGHLIGHT THE VALUE OF YOUR ACCREDITED CME PROGRAM
ACCME in May launched the #AccreditedCMEDelivers toolkitto help CME planners advocate for the value of their work. The toolkit includes a document for you to share with key decision makers within your organization and the first of a series of social media posts to start your own viral campaign. Our goal is to help healthcare leaders understand the incredibly valuable role both you and your team can play in solving some of their most difficult problems. Start sharing your story and be sure to include the hashtag, #AccreditedCMEDelivers.

DATA TIPS
ABS CONTINUOUS CERTIFICATION ASSESSMENT REGISTRATION APPROACHING
As the registration period for the 2024 American Board of Surgery (ABS) Continuous Certification Assessment (CCA) approaches, accredited providers may receive a higher volume of requests from learners for CME credits to be reported into ACCME’s Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS). Registration begins Aug. 1, 2024. The 2024 CCA window runs from Aug. 26 – Nov. 4, 2024. ACCME offers a variety of resources to help you report learner credits for ABS. Still have questions? We’re happy to help! Contact us at info@accme.org.
EXTENDED TIMELINE FOR REPORTING LEARNERS’ CREDITS IN PARS
We encourage accredited providers to report learner credits into PARS within 30 days of a learner completing an activity so that the credit is available to meet both licensing and certification requirements, and the learner is able to see the credit in their CME Passport profile. To accommodate different activity formats and the length of time it might take a learner to complete the activity, the cut-off deadline for reporting has been two years after the credit was earned. At the request of numerous accredited providers and their learners, we have extended that cut-off to five years effective July 1, 2024. This extended cut-off deadline applies to all CME credit reported for licensing and for the following certifying boards: the American Board of Surgery, the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and the American Board of Internal Medicine.
This change is meant to add flexibility for accredited providers that wish to accommodate longer timeframes for reporting learner credit. Each accredited provider is encouraged to use whatever timeframe best meets their learners’ and system needs, within that five-year reporting window.
We are working with other collaborating boards to implement this change for them in the future. As always, we are happy to answer any questions you may have about the change. Please contact us at info@accme.org.
