(July 1, 2025) – The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) is pleased to release its 2024 Annual Data Report: Evolving Impact in a Shifting Landscape, offering a comprehensive overview of the accredited continuing medical education/continuing education (CME/CE) system. Now in its 27th year, the report reflects a learning enterprise that is thriving, resilient, and increasingly focused on outcomes that improve patient care.
In 2024, total reported income reached $3.7 billion—a record high—driven by strong registration revenue and a new peak in advertising and exhibit income, which surpassed $725 million. While commercial support declined modestly (down 5%), the CME/CE enterprise continues to diversify funding sources and adapt to structural changes in healthcare delivery.
The report highlights the expanding educational value of enduring materials, live meetings, and regularly scheduled series (RSS), each contributing uniquely to clinician learning:
- Enduring online formats support deep, flexible engagement with specialized topics.
- Live national meetings foster professional identity and rapid dissemination of new research.
- RSS activities provide longitudinal, team-based learning within hospital settings.
This year’s report also shows continued progress in higher-level outcome measurement, with more CME/CE activities assessing competence (95%), performance (46%), and even patient health (18%).
“The 2024 data describe an enterprise that is evolving to meet the changing needs of clinicians and healthcare systems,” said Graham McMahon, MD, MMSc, President and CEO, ACCME. “Accredited continuing education continues to grow in value, impact, and trust—supporting better learning, better performance, and better care.”
