One activity included a small group clinic session on de-escalating agitation and provided a series of simulated encounters giving learners opportunities to practice communication skills specific to dealing with an agitated patient in the emergency department. Learners received verbal and written feedback about their performance using a de-escalation rubric, and the provider gave examples of feedback that was presented.
