Organization Using Similar Name and Describing Itself as CME Accreditor Is Not ACCME

The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) has issued the following warning: The organization doing business as the American Academy of Continuing Medical Education and the American Association of CME, which describes itself as a CME accreditor, is not the ACCME® and is not a part of the ACCME® system. It is not accredited as a CE provider or recognized as an accreditor by the ACCME®.
The ACCME became aware of this organization from accreditation systems and providers from outside the US that mistakenly thought they were dealing with the ACCME®. These organizations were told that the AACME will provide documentation of accreditation upon payment of a fee. Please be warned: This is not an ACCME® organization.
The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) does not:
- Have any association or affiliation with an organization known as American Academy of Continuing Medical Education (AACME) or American Association of CME (AACME);
- Work in conjunction with the organization known as American Academy of Continuing Medical Education (AACME) or American Association of CME (AACME) in any way;
- Have any direct knowledge of the organization known as American Academy of Continuing Medical Education (AACME) or American Association of CME (AACME), or their accreditation practices; or
- Accredit the organization known as American Academy of Continuing Medical Education (AACME) or American Association of CME (AACME).

The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) is a nonprofit organization based in Chicago that is responsible for accrediting institutions that offer continuing medical education through a voluntary, self-regulatory system. The ACCME also has a system for recognizing state medical societies as accreditors for local organizations offering CME.
